Goodbye friends. Hello wealth.

The family is shrinking
A few months back Talyn and Emily left the Phoenix family in search of pastures new. Of course, as is customary, the new family transferred some ISK which was gladly received to renew pilots licenses.

The latest departure though, weighed in heavily on the old heart. We said goodbye to Commander Phoenix who, with noise, had been with the family since 2003. Commander Phoenix had been considering looking for a new home for a while but wasn't actively looking, there was a notice placed on EVE Board though. It was through this notice that a new family contacted her with regards to relocating.

Goodbye Commander Phoenix, our time together will be remembered fondly.

Spare a talent for an old ex-leper?
Currently sitting in corporate wallets, there is 16 billion ISK. Nearly 2 billion in personal wallets. Excluding blueprints, there is an estimated 9 billion in assets spread out over New Eden in 149 different stations.

27 billion ISK. That's not bad!

What shall I buy?

The above picture is a joke!

In fact. I'm going to ask you, dear readers, a question. Shall I buy an in-game monocle?
Leave me a comment here, Twitter, in-game or any other way. Tell me why I should or shouldn't buy a monocle.
In a hopefull attempt to get people to actually let me know their opinions, I'll do whatever the most popular answer is. I don't actually WANT to buy a monocle, I have no reason what-so-ever to buy a monocle (except to perhaps troll other EVE players) but if the mojority of people getting back to me thinks it's a good idea then I'll buy one. If on the other hand the majority of people think it's a bad idea, then I'll not buy one. Either way I want to know what YOU think about buying monocles or not. I want reasons people!

I was asked by a friend what the wealth converted into GBP so I got some figures together for fun.

1 GTC costs $34.99 which is £21.69 and 1 GTC equals 2 PLEX.
1 PLEX costs 370,000,000 ISK so with 2 PLEX that means £21.69 is equal to 740,000,000 ISK.
We can work that to mean £1 equals 34,117,104.66 ISK or 100,000,000 ISK equals £2.93.

27,000,000,000 ISK equals £791.39.

Not bad! There isn't a way to convert ISK to GBP but if there were, I'd be able to buy a new computer that could play EVE Online using something other than minimal settings. Of course, I'd have no ISK to be able to play the game...

So far 3 people have said that I should buy a monocle. Possible motivations are to troll fellow EVE Online players, to do what I want to do with my ISK or as Shiggles above says, so he can borrow it!

However, a clear majority (10 so far) have stated that I should NOT buy a monocle with various reasons given:

Showing CCP's experiment that we will not buy their items at those prices.
It's a waste of money.
There is no point to it.
Buying it would justify it's price.
It's ugly.
It'll be on sale soon enough.
It's not a smart use of ISK.

So, it looks like I won't be buying one unless a stampede of pro-monocle commenters appear out of the woodwork.

I wouldn't buy a monocle. Aside of all the emotion and mess and miscommunication, there is one thing which really is clear above all else. CCP are making up MT concepts and policies as they go for the purpose of building an experience base for other products, and they are doing it with EVE because nobody quits the golden goose -as they put it.It's a personal thing. I enjoy EVE, and I have learned to never take anything that CCP says as any guarantee or even truth where it comes to plans for EVE, other than more personal experiments. I find that offensive, insulting even. It shows a disdain for customers and customer interactions. And while I love EVE, and still play it, I can't see any point in rewarding that mindset present within CCP. Especially not when they do not have to mess with EVE for the sake of other products and press statements. It's time for CCP to close the gap between what they say, and what they do. Otherwise the place is going to get far too shallow for the good of everyone engaged in it. So, no monocles for me, and I can't recommend it to anyone anymore.

I would not encourage a monocle purchase, buy yourself a ship instead.

I would _tell_ everyone that you're going to buy a monocle and use the rest to buy controlling stock in Total Bastard Airlines. 16 Billion should just about buy up 50.1% outstanding shares.....I'm just saying...

but eeet. I wanna borrow it sometimes, ya know. it impresses the chicks

There are a number of things that you could do with your new wealth. I would not suggest one of those designer monocles. Such trivial pieces are a waste of Aurum for those without enough skill to find their self worth though personal achievements. I think a portion of the wealth should donated to a worthy cause in the name of your family as one final act of unity. Such a generous gift will help encourage the younger ones to start their own family's and make their way in to the world of New Eden. EVE University and Project Halibut are always excellent organizations to donate to. The rest of you should take as your retirement. Maybe go find a nice quiet corner in a system, start a pos farm. If you tend it properly, you'll be living well for the rest of your days. Of course there's the "mid life crisis option" and you could get yourself a nice T3 or carrier decked out with the latest in dead space or faction mods. Of course it will probably turn in to one of those "Sunday Only" vessels that you take out for a joy ride only on clear days. Whatever you choose to do with your new found wealth, I wish both branches of your family the best. Remember the good times had together, but don't forget to embrace your new tomorrow.

Nah, man, save it up for the 3-piece special: a permanently refilled glass of wine, a top hat, AND a monocle! Instant server crashes!

Buy a monocle? Out of the question. Use your ISK to buy perhaps a new ship or new weapons. Or, even better, invest in better mining equipment so you can earn even more ISK!

Not to worry Jonathan. Jump up a couple of posts. No monocle for me :D
